My best friend’s birthday dinner was last Friday at Purple Wine Bar in Kirkland. I have been to the location in Seattle and loved it and have also sat at the bar and ordered wine at the Kirkland location with good results, so I was expecting the same for this occasion.I seriously think our server was on drugs, it is the only decent explanation I can give to his disappearing-act service. The party all arrived about the same time and sat and sat and sat for about 10 minutes before the waiter came over to greet us. He did not take a drink order, he just greeted. Annoyed I pulled him aside a few minutes later and placed my order and directed him around the table so everyone else could order. After another 15 the drinks came and 15 after that he came to take our dinner order. While ordering we expressed that we were in a big hurry and could he please get the food through quickly. I know we had a fairly large party, 12 people in all, but we all wanted to get dancing before our men got tired and wanted to go home.
In no hurry at all, the food came out. Luckily, the food was fantastic and we were distracted until everyone finished and we had not seen our server since he gave us the food. The birthday girl and I both ordered fantastic 10” pizzas for only $10 and wanted doggy bags, and I was hoping he would bring out something with a candle, since I told him it was a birthday party when we were seated.
He reappeared to give us a little cake with (thank goodness) a candle and once again to get us boxes and our bill, then did his disappearing act again. The party became inpatient and ended up leaving our cash and bill with the girls at the hostess stand. Gratuity was auto-added, so we were unable to express our dissatisfaction with the service so I am doing it now! Go to Purple in Seattle or go the Kirkland location, but do not plan a party there, they do not have servers experienced enough to assist parties over 4.

I have heard that the Purple Wine Bar is a decent place to eat. My experience with service in Kirkland and the Eastside for that matter is horrible. The only thing i can think of is that they are payed to well to even care about getting a tip. In your case they probably didnt care because tip is automatically included with large parties. Another great place to eat is right next door at Riki Riki. Cheers!
