Supporting Evidence

My 2 year gym contract ended a few months ago and because I was only going to be in the area for a few more months, I requested that I be able to pay month to month until I moved. (When I first signed up, they told me once my contract was up I would be able to continue my contract on a month-to-month basis paying the same amount as I did when I originally signed.) The sales rep. told me I couldn't pay month to month as it didn't say anything about that in my contract (figures), but that he would lower the cancellation fee to $50 so that it wouldn't be as big a deal when I moved. It came time for me to cancel my contract and when I called about canceling it, they informed me that there was no place in my contract that said I could cancel for $50 and that even if there was I cannot cancel unless I have proof that I am moving somewhere that is 30 miles from a Gold's Gym. My only other option was to sell my contract to someone else and even then I would have to pay a $100 transfer fee. $50 to cancel? Please! Gold's Gym is a manipulative monopoly who trains their sales reps. to do whatever it takes to sell a membership, even if it means making up complete lies and compromising their integrity. To that man who conned me into resigning my contract, YOU LIED TO ME and I hope someday you'll pay.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy working out there, but their sales techniques are down right shady.

I hate places that try to lock you in to contracts. Is there anywhere that just offers month-to-month billing anymore?

That's terrible! I had to pay a $100 cancellation fee when I left the Gold's in Bellingham because it was a couple months before my contract was over...but at least they never lied to me about it.
